When naming names it would be nice to be able to hot link to their portrait to sort out all the characters in the plot. Best not to rely on the short term memory capability of the reader.
Also one of the links tried to follow a cite was met with “Not Found.”
It would be interesting to look into Mary Pinchot’s family history. It is an unusual name that is also associated with a Historic Structure in Medina County–an early Texas name.

Well.

The National Museum is closing down, due to budget and political problems in the divided disfunctional federal government.

As Kemal says in his piece, the library that he was chief custodian of before the war was there at the National Museum.

This closing is quite a symbol. Some people are indeed afraid of more war. The Dayton Accord was never designed to succeed.

Someone emailed asking if the interview text was heavily edited — in particular, if Allen was actually speaking in the long, sometimes complicated sentences the reader sees.

The answer: Yes, he was speaking those long sentences. His text is very very lightly edited.

He clearly had prepared himself to talk into my tape recorder, and did so in organized fashion.

I typed out a pure transcript, gave it to him. Then we talked on the phone and he corrected some words I had misunderstood off the tape.

But no re-writing or recasting of thoughts.
