The evidence that he's a trusted mouthpiece of big brass in Pentagon and elsewhere is his reportage itself. Look at the New Yorker archives ... All the pieces he puts out are dynamite revelations from inside NSA (nat'l sec'ty apparat) targeting (mostly) the civilian leadership. In the age of Bush-Cheney this has been invaluable. I'm not saying he was a Mouthpiece in the 60s, when he broke Mai Lai. Nor am I saying Mouthpieces are bad things. They're necessary conduits. Joseph Trento has been another, in Spookville, for 30 years. But if one has this in mind when reading, realizing that the information was given to the conduit as a move in a power struggle by insiders against insiders ...  Helps to read more clearly and Beware a bit better. I wouldn’t call him a stooge, myself.
